Gamblewise

Gamblewise is a solution for gamblers to track the time they spend in casinos. The app uses Beacon technology to detect the users entering and exiting the casino.

About the app

With Gamblewise, gamblers can start monitoring and controlling their time spent gambling in any of their partnered venues, such as Caesar’s Palace and others. The app places control and awareness into users’ hands by enabling them to gamble on their own terms and know their limits. They have the option to simply “Time track” without any limits or notifications, giving them an overview and insight into how much time they spend gambling.

Challenge

The app was supposed to use the Beacon technology in order to spot users in casinos and track them. The problem with this is that you have to rely on an external hardware component. The technology at the time was pretty incipient, so unfortunately the Beacons were not very reliable and the support for debugging them was not easy to find. There were many use cases where the beacons didn’t have the expected behavior.

Solution

We managed to solve the Beacon problem with an ingenious architectural design that would include back-up scenarios in case the first line of expected behavior failed, reducing the probability of error from 30% to under 0.5%.

Results

Due to this new technology, our client managed to sign contracts with Caesar’s Palace and other major casinos across the US and the UK. They offer this solution to gamblers, so that they can easily manage and control their addiction.
